國內翻譯研究繁多,大多以翻譯策略為主,強調能夠解決一些現行翻譯所出現的問題。然而翻譯的文類以文學作品居多,鮮少在其他文類有進一步的研究探討,特別是兒童文本翻譯理論的領域。現今翻譯研究的市場已從文學翻譯漸趨多媒體文本翻譯,字幕翻譯為主要的翻譯研究方向。目前字幕翻譯的研究只侷限在翻譯原則上的著墨,卻沒有一套完善的翻譯手段運用特性。因此,本研究將以孩童喜愛的知名動畫電影「史瑞克1」和其續集「史瑞克2」為樣本分析,結合兒童文學翻譯原則,審視兒童媒體文本的語言使用的正確性,再以文化翻譯策略歸納適合兒童觀眾觀賞的字幕翻譯呈現方式。
本研究採取質性研究方法,進行兩階段的字幕翻譯問題的評析。第一階段以問卷方式蒐集五位中部應用外語系研究生對於史瑞克電影中的翻譯問題的分析,接者以研究者個人的觀點深入分析其翻譯策略使用的優劣之處。本研究發現大多的受訪者認為翻譯適合孩童所觀賞的動畫電影沒有受限於單一絕對的翻譯策略,反而需要結合多種的翻譯策略的組合。在介紹國外文化知識時,大多以直譯、意譯和刪除翻譯策略為主。如果能夠讓孩童觀眾更深入了解異國文化內容,其文化詞的翻譯則必須結合他們熟悉的本地流行文化象徵事物。
Many domestic translation theories only discourse on the subject of translation strategies, which highly advocate the emphasis of solving the translation problems. The translating genres, however, mainly belong to literature pieces and less translation study dwells on other texts, especially children literature. At present, the translation type has already changed toward the one of the audio translation that called “Subtitle Translation.” The contemporary study on subtitle translation merely discusses around the principles, yet there lacks a well-organized translation strategy for some certain texts. Hence, the thesis takes advantage of children-favored animated film Shrek and its sequel Shrek 2 as samples, expecting to combine the criterion of children literature translation to examine the language appropriateness in the children media text; furthermore, the thesis will apply cultural translation strategies to conclude more adequate subtitle translation for children audience.
The thesis adopts the qualitative approach for the two-phase assessment of the subtitle-translating problems. In the first stage, the researcher delivers questionnaire to collect opinions about the translation problems in Shrek and Shrek2 form five Applied English graduate students in Central Taiwan University. The second stage is researcher-oriented in the more deep perspective of the advantage and disadvantage of their opinions. The result points out that the more appropriate subtitle-translating strategies for children should be more diversified. Literal, free and deletion translation methods frequently are applied in introducing foreign cultural knowledge. To translate cultural terms more successfully, the subtitle translation must be accompanied with children-oriented local popular culture symbols.
