巴洛克時期重要的作曲家巴赫（Johann Sebastian Bach, 1685 - 1750），一生創作許多種類的音樂，包含聲樂、管弦樂、器樂等等。在器樂方面，涵蓋了鍵盤樂器、弓弦樂器、管樂器…，此外，還有較少為人知的撥奏樂器 – 魯特琴。
巴赫創作魯特琴作品的時間，超過30年，這些作品流傳到20世紀，正值吉他的復興時期。為拓展音樂，吉他演奏家嘗試接觸各類樂器的作品，包含魯特琴，終於成功地將之改編成為吉他音樂，受到廣大的歡迎，至今已成為演奏會上常出現的曲目。
《BWV 998 前奏/賦格/快板》是巴赫魯特琴作品中，非常優美的一首，樂曲動聽，風格獨特，結構平衡完整。有意思的是樂章組成方式與其他魯特琴組曲不同，不以舞曲形式構成。是許多吉他愛好者喜歡欣賞或是彈奏的作品。本研究將以「由淺表而深入」的方式介紹這首作品於讀者，內容包括：
1.巴赫所有魯特琴作品的簡介，含年代、背景以及相關資訊。
2.這首《BWV 998》的原始手稿在音樂界所引發的各類探討與爭論。許多魯特琴或是鍵盤樂器專家懷疑這首作品並非為魯特琴創作，而是鍵盤樂器。本研究將提供國際間魯特琴演奏家與學者的分析，及其個人研判。之後章節的重點在音樂性的探討，而非考證巴赫創作這些樂曲的真正意圖，因此僅列出若干說法，不深入著墨。
3.樂曲分析：
a.〈前奏〉：包含動機、旋律、和聲、低音聲部（持續音，旋律線），以及樂曲進行方式的分析介紹。
b.〈賦格〉：分析曲式與樂句組成，首先要知道的，是「賦格」這個詞並不是音樂「曲式」，《BWV 998》這首賦格的形式非常特別。本研究將對照書本理論，探討在這首作品中「賦格」音樂的各類組成要素，歸納、探討這些組成要素，並分析整個樂曲結構。
c.〈快板〉：透過高低聲部的分析，介紹並分享讀者欣賞這個樂章高低音聲部「上天下地」般的精采設計。
4.樂曲詮釋：以研究者的觀點與對此曲的感受，建議若干表現方式，增加聽者的印象並瞭解巴赫音樂的旨趣。
5.結論：未來研究方向的建議。結尾將稍稍引領一些新的思考方向，提供給後續研究者參考。

Johann Sebastian Bach (1685 - 1750) is one of the most famous and important composers of the Baroque era. He is known for his works in genres such as orchestral suites, sonatas, concertos, and choral works. For instrumental works, he composed solo works for keyboard (such as the “Well-Tempered Clavier”), violin (such as the sonatas and partitas for solo violin), and harpsichord. He is considered one of the greatest composers of all time and his instrumental works are still widely performed and studied today.
One of Bach’s great instrumental works is the lute suite. His lute music now has been transcribed and played on the guitar for several decades. Among those lute works, “BWV 998” is an excellent example of Bach's mastery of form and harmony. In this study, we will go through below subjects for a more detailed investigation on this piece:
1. Brief introduction of Bach’s lute works.
2. Debates around this piece. About Bach’s authentic instrumentation of this piece, is it for lute or luteharpsichord? Some scholars’ opinions will be referred to and discussed in this study.
3. Music analysis:
a. Prelude: Introductory analysis including motive, melody, harmony, bass parts (basso continuo, bass lines).
b. Fugue: Introductory analysis of the fugue elements in this piece, such as subject, answer, countersubject, and free material.
c. Allegro: Through the analysis of its treble and bass parts to introduce the composer’s excellent skill in this lovely piece.
4. Music interpretation.
5. Conclusion and suggestion for future, extended research of this piece.
