筆者在經歷一趟中國西北地區佛教文化考察之旅後，在創作領域中受到了啟發，進而延伸出對於藝術價值的思維，試圖探索創作路上的各種可能性。本論主要分為三個章節去探討。第一章爬梳了筆者在考察之旅中的感知，以歷史的脈絡作為架構，並提出觀察到的佛教塑像現況之聯想，闡述符號與精神性之間的關聯。第二章開始談論傳統文化在當代藝術中的發展動向，以「傳統與創新」、「臨摹與創造」、「地域文化與創作媒材」等幾個議題作為探討的方向，最後以羅蘭‧巴特(Roland Barthes)的神話學作為理論基礎，希望運用佛教形像符號，創造出屬於當下的現代神話。第三章試圖釐清筆者自身創作的核心價值，在「人間莊嚴」系列作中，以「容貌」、「材質」、「解構與重組」等形式語彙，探討佛教形像符號在創作中衍生的不同面像。最終以創作時何以為度的思考方式，提出了「閱讀蓋婭」、及「一粒沙、一朵花」兩件作品為例，企圖跳脫符號的框架，追求形而上的精神性。在形式之外，佛教形像符號能衍生到甚麼領域？以自省的態度保有核心思想，給予創作之路一個開放性提問。

The beginning of the work research is after author took a trip, which was studying around grottoes and museums in China North and West side. According to the research, author try to analyze the value of art, and find the possibility on creating way. This paper consists of three parts. In Chapter 1, author sort the feeling in the trip out, making it up of Chinese history. And talk about some imagination of Buddha sculptures that author saw in the trip. According the imagination to describe the relation between symbols and spirituality. In Chapter 2, author according three issues: “Tradition and Production”, “Copy and Creation”, “Local Culture and Creative Media” discuss how the traditional culture develop into contemporary art. Finally according The Mythologies of Roland Barthes to be the disciplinary approaches. Author try to use Buddhist symbols to create “Contemporary Mythologies”.
In Chapter 3, Author start to analyze what is the main value of his art works. In the sculpture series ‘’Solemn Human”, including “Face”, “Materials”, “Deconstruction and construction”, the three parts of symbols. Author use this three ways to analyze what are the Buddhist symbols of derivations. Finally, author give some example for different point views in making art works. “Reading Gaia” and “A Sand and A Flower” these two works try to go out of symbol’s way, and find the way to get spirituality. Forgiven the form, what kind of dimension the Buddhist symbols can touch? Keep a pure heart and open mind, giving the road of creation not only a door but also windows.
