This movie “Goodbye! Hello!” is about a little boy who claims a taxi driver as his father. Throughout the plots, both the little boy and the taxi driver have their own secrets. The taxi driver is not willing to reveal his attempted suicide, and the little boy also hides the fact that he is not the taxi-driver’s biological son. They begin their little trip on a summer afternoon. With no biological relations, these two have formed a parent-son bond due to their needs of affections, showing the warmth of humanity. The script discusses concepts such as “the needs and the states of minds”, “the atonement and the salvation” and “the non-biological father and son” profoundly.
The location of the movie sets in Longjing District, Taichung. This is also where the fossil-fuel power station that releases the highest carbon dioxide in the world is located. As we look up around this area, we can always see the carbon dioxide clouds in the sky. This image of the polluted clouds can be seen as the metaphor as a giant monster occupies the whole area and people within are dominated by the monster unconsciously. The monster has been internalized into the locals’ life experience. The setting of the movie derives from two concepts. First, the relationship of “the people and the environment” is presented. Also, the post-industrial scenes and the atmosphere of a bleak town allow the audience to sense the grey emotions inside the roles’ minds as they watch the movie.
The production disclosure of the movie can be divided into six chapters. Chapter 1 Introduction discusses the background and motivations of the production. Literature Review, the second chapter, explores the roles’ mental states. Chapter 3 Production Rationale addresses the writing of the script and the planning of the production. The forth chapter, Pre-production and Production explains the process of how the texts were visualized. Chapter 5 Visual Presentation demonstrates the actual production results. Chapter 6 Screening and Conclusion discusses the feedbacks from the screening tours and the review of the production process.
