Having an independent personality due to the family education, I have formulated a principle about equitableness in various aspects which most people are less likely to accept. Equitableness refers to doing things by the regulations, and not being biased against certain people in official business. Under this circumstance, I started being estranged from others, feeling moody because of this interpersonal state. The sense of feeling loneliness, however, has been becoming the nourishment and source of my creation imperceptibly. Through the process of creating, this lonely feeling can be soothed, a better and deeper understanding of myself can be brought about as well. In addition, it allows me to be more aware of my shortcomings in relationships with others, re-examine myself from a subjective perspective and accept the state of being alone. This essay will elaborate on how I apply the daily visual elements into artwork that convey the idea of loneliness to the viewer.
Looking into how the feeling of loneliness was described in literacy and artists, whose works on the theme of loneliness across art history, I tried to analyze and find out the way how they build up this emotion through their work. For example, ruins are often used by artists as a metaphor for loneliness. And then, I will establish my theoretical basis and literature review based on the above research.
In this study, through the information I have organized as well as the practice of my own creating, I not only took ruins as the carrier of presentation to convey the psychological state of loneliness but also personified trees and transformed myself into them to depict and convey this lonely mood in a more surreal way. With this study, I would like to see myself as an artist who not only by pure emotion derived from intuition but a more systematic approach to depicting the sense of loneliness I want to share in the future.
