"THE CHOICE OF DICK", simply speaking is a story of Nick, a middle-age man hopes to hit on his wife by trying to carry on a clandestine love affair. However, lots of mistakes and misunderstanding are made in the process. This is the second short film written and directed by myself after “A Kiss Name goodbye”. I hope it presents the genre of light comedy. "THE CHOICE OF DICK " was shot in 1080p high-definition -- using SONY EX3 digital camera with editing by MAC Final Cut Pro. The fund was very limited and quite independent. Besides few money raised by myself, Flaneur Culture Lab and Dot-Shine Digimedia Communication Co., Ltd were huge support of all kinds of resources. Five days shot in early May, and finished the post-production in the end of August. The story starts from December 2009. After discussing with my tutor Daw Ming Lee several times, I gradually made my thoughts clearer and clearer. Specially thanks for his valuable and experienced opinions, and finally I got my synopsis and outline for each scene. In late April, I decided the lead actor, Muyi Chen. I worked with him for a long time on the first draft script. With his help, the final script was ascertained. In this essay, I try to focus on the value of marriage, and the text and different ways of peeping—no matter from the sights of characters, monitors, neighbours, friends, or my camera, the audiences’ eyes. In production, which includes my ideas of directing and how I view the art of film, I try to profile the story with humorous tone. Revenge and jealousy are no more than a ‘tool’ to lead the audience to find out the answer. The main point of my work is trying to reveal ‘the difficulty of managing the marriage.’ I learned a lot from this experience that one very important thing of directing a film-- collecting the talent and wisdom of professional people from different areas. Each position is equal, and each is influential to the final face of the film. I’ve been working as a photographer in Taiwan film industry for more than 20 years, and I feel interested in directing more and more. Very lucky that I had the chance to study how to become a good director in TNUA, and got to know better about the creating process of filming. I do appreciate everyone and everything. Thanks God.
