We follow our own habits in most of life because we are restricted by habits. When a habit occurs too often and affects the normal physical and mental operation, it is called an addiction. In our daily life, addiction is a word with negative connotation, as the addicts often neglect the surroundings when being indulged. For me, dance is just like an addiction. Thus I try to discuss the influence of dancing addiction by finding out my habitual body language and choreographic methods. Three works related to “Addiction” were created from three aspects including cognitive views, review on dance and the dissociation of the habituation. First, in the cognitive views, addiction is divided into addiction state and compensatory behavior. Simply speaking, people need to soothe body and mind by compensatory behavior after being addicted, or they will lose the mental and physical balance. It is a kind of relation between demanding and demanded. It’s similar to love which makes people lost and desperate despite of hurt. Thus I created the work “Fall in Love with Addiction”. In the review on dance, I found ballet has great impact on my aesthetic experience, and thus I sought for the perfect body movements in my mind through the work “Ballade No.2”. Finally, in order to dissociate myself from the habituation, I sought for moving elements of other dancers as an observer, and structured the work “Jitter” rationally. Therefore, the whole creation of Addiction is a process of finding habituation, facing habituation and dissociated from habituation. Choreography is a way to identify oneself from the deep inside, as it is closely related to the personal background and aesthetic experience. Thus the choreography is also a process of understanding Addiction.
