臺灣博碩士論文加值系統

理查•杭德利（Richard Hundley, 1933- ）和詹姆士•普爾帝（James Purdy, 1923-2009）分別為美國當代的作曲家及詩人，兩人兩人不僅是志同道合的好朋友，更有著密切的合作關係。本論文選出八首由杭德利譜曲自普爾帝的作品：〈請束裝赴約〉、〈獅群〉、〈鳥，美國〉、〈我願意〉、〈傍晚時光〉、〈巴塞洛繆．格林〉、〈水鳥〉、〈美人等我〉，做進一步的研究。

本論文首先簡述美國音樂的多元背景與創作素材，再介紹杭德利和普爾帝的生平及創作風格，以及兩人之間的合作關係。接著論述八首美國藝術歌曲的分析與詮釋，以歌詞和音樂的角度進行討論，探討歌曲中美國獨特的音樂元素及樂曲風格。期望能提供讀者對於美國多元素材的認識，以及這八首藝術歌曲演唱時的詮釋參考。

By analyzing works of Richard Hundley, an American composer (1933-), this thesis illustrates the creative elements and uniqueness of contemporary American art songs. Eight art songs are chosen here, including “Come Ready and See Me”, “Lions”, “U.S.A.”, “I Do”, “Evening Hours”, “Bartholomew Green”, “Straightway Beauty on Me Waits” and “Waterbird”. All these songs have adopted lyrics from American poet James Purdy (1923-2009), a closed friend and long-term colleague of Hundley.

This thesis begins with a review on contemporary American music and its diverse cultural background. Then it further explores Purdy’s writing and Hundley’s composition styles, together with the historical review of their autographic background and relationship. Finally, this research offers a detailed analysis and new interpretation of these eight American art songs, focusing on its musical elements and its lyrics. By viewing Hundley’s work from its social background, including artists’ life and the American diverse culture that they grow up to, this thesis aims to contribute a better understanding on American contemporary music. For singers and musicians who are interested in performing American art songs, this thesis offers an alternative, probably more completed picture to understand Hundley and Purdy as well.
