孟德爾頌(1809 - 1847)是19世紀優異的作曲家與指揮家，而本論文所探討的1838年《F大調小提琴奏鳴曲》是屬於孟德爾頌創作已屆成熟時期的作品。可惜因為嚴格的自我要求，這首作品至孟德爾頌辭世都未能出版，而直到1953年經由小提琴家梅紐因著手編輯刪修並由彼得出版社印行方得見於世人。
2009年此作品由貝倫萊特出版社的學者考證後再次出版：此版本樂譜中不但提供孟德爾頌1838年手稿的完整樂譜與學術考證論述，同時將孟德爾頌在1839年修改至第一樂章發展部的殘缺原稿補足為完整樂章一起印行，因而成為此曲的創作沿革與梅紐因編修此曲之脈絡與手法的重要參考資料。
本論文以貝倫萊特出版社依據孟德爾頌1838年手稿所出版之完整樂譜作為樂曲解析概述之主體，並詳盡探討此1838年版本與孟德爾頌1839年未完成的修訂手稿及1953年梅紐因編修版本之間的差異。論文內容第一章為研究緒論，第二章包含作曲家生平、樂曲創作背景及樂譜版本沿流，第三章為樂曲結構分析，第四章為三種樂譜版本比較，第五章則總結樂曲各樂章特色與樂譜版本的差異。

Felix Mendelssohn (1809 - 1847) was one of the most outstanding composers and conductors in the 19th century. The main work discussed in this thesis, Mendelssohn’s Violin Sonata in F Major, was composed during the period of the composer’s maturity. However, his strict self-criticism prevents this work from being published during his lifetime. This violin sonata was left unknown for years until the violinist Yehudi Menuhin rediscovered and edited the work, published in 1953 by C.F. Peters Corporation.
In 2009, this great piece was rearranged by the prominent musicologists of Bärenreiter Publishing Group and was republished. The Bärenreiter Urtext edition represents a scholarly edition of the work and provides not only the editions of both the original 1838’s edition and the incomplete revision of the first movement by Mendelssohn himself in 1839, but also a “complete” 1839’s edition accomplished by the scholars. Therefore, Bärenreiter Urtext edition is a very important reference resource for this work and also for understanding how Yehudi Menuhin’s edition is done.
The thesis presents a general analysis of this work based on Mendelssohn’s edition of 1838 provided in Bärenreiter Urtext edition. The thesis provides a detailed comparison of the complete 1838’s edition with both the unfinished revision in 1839 by Mendelssohn and Yehudi Menuhin’s edition.
This thesis contains six chapters: Chapter 1 is an introduction; Chapter 2 includes the biography of the composer, the compositional background of the violin sonata and the historical evolution of three different editions; Chapter 3 is a general analysis of the compositional structure; Chapter 4 is a comparison of the three editions; Chapter 5 is the conclusion referring to the compositional style of three movements and the different editing thoughts among editions.
