在西洋音樂史中，古典與浪漫時期分別代表著不同音樂思潮與藝術表達。從18世紀的古典時期到19世紀的浪漫時期，音樂風格、曲式結構和創作理念都經歷了顯著的變化。在這一過程中，絕對音樂與標題音樂成為了兩種截然不同的創作取向，反映了作曲家對音樂本質與藝術表現的不同理解。
本論文透過學位音樂會的三首曲目：孟德爾頌《芬加爾洞窟》序曲、海頓《第二號大提琴協奏曲》及西貝流士《第二號交響曲》，從創作背景、曲式結構及演奏詮釋等方面進行深入探討，並從中窺覬絕對音樂與標題音樂在音樂史中的流變。

Abstract
In the history of Western music, the Classical and Romantic periods represent distinct musical ideologies and artistic expressions. From the Classical era of the 18th century to the Romantic era of the 19th century, there were significant transformations in musical style, formal structure, and compositional philosophy. During this evolution, absolute music and program music emerged as two contrasting approaches to composition, reflecting different interpretations of music’s essence and artistic purpose.

This thesis explores these contrasting concepts through an in-depth study of three works featured in the author’s graduate recital: Mendelssohn’s Hebrides Overture (also known as Fingal’s Cave), Haydn’s Cello Concerto No. 2, and Sibelius’s Symphony No. 2. By examining the compositional background, formal structure, and interpretative performance of these pieces, the paper seeks to trace the historical development of absolute and program music within the broader context of Western music history.
