維塔利夏康舞曲由德國小提琴兼作曲家費德南．大衛（Ferdinand David, 1810-1873）於1867年首度改編出版。他將巴洛克樂曲特徵融合了浪漫和聲與演奏技法，使此曲成為經常被演出的作品之一，甚至改編成給各種不同樂器演奏的版本。
然而此曲原始手稿（Facsimile）尚未發現，因此原作者是否為維塔利一直無法證實。大衛依據雅各．林德納（Jacob Lindner）所抄寫的手抄稿（Manuscript）進行改編，手抄稿上雖然冠上“Tomaso Vitalino”，但指的是否為巴洛克時期作曲家托馬斯．安東尼奧．維塔利（Tomaso Antonio Vitali, 1663-1745），目前尚無法確認。維塔利的生平資料非常稀少，再加上音樂風格帶有濃郁的浪漫時期曲風，因此引起音樂學者對作曲家是誰的諸多爭議。
此樂曲除了大衛編修的樂譜版本，陸續有依據大衛版本再作延伸編輯的雷歐波德．沙利耶（Leopold Charlier, 1867-1936）版本、根據手抄稿考究的迪札爾德．黑爾曼（Diethard Hellmann, 1928-1999）版本，以及不同配器與不同主奏樂器之改編版本。
除此之外，夏康舞曲的錄音版本眾多，除了演奏家本身具備的個人詮釋特色，部份演奏家甚至將樂曲段落再作刪修剪輯，或將不同版本樂段替換結合，使作品詮釋的樣貌有了更多的可能性。
本論文分為五章節，第一章說明研究動機與方法；第二章統整作曲家爭議之相關文獻論點，了解其作品背景；第三章介紹樂譜版本與改編版本，並選用最常被演出的近代小提琴家雷歐波德．沙利耶版分析樂曲結構；第四章以大衛與沙利耶兩個樂譜版本的錄音版本作詮釋比較；第五章總結改編版本之貢獻，及樂曲詮釋重點。

Vitali’s Chaconne was first arranged and published in 1867 by the German violinist and composer Ferdinand David (1810-1873) . His arrangement of Chaconne presents the characteristics of Baroque music combined with romantic harmonic language and performance techniques, and it is has been one of the most frequently performed works. This work is also transcribed for different instruments.
However, the original manuscript of this Chaconne (Facsimile) is never found, so whether Vitali is the real composer has not been verified. The name "Tomaso Vitalino" is written at Jacob Lindner’s copy of manuscript, on which David's arrangement is based, but it remains questionable if "Tomaso Vittalino" refers to the Baroque composer Tomaso Antonio Vitali (1663-1745) . Moreover, there is little known about Vitali as a composer, plus the strong orientation of romantic music style shown in David's arrangement, questions about the real composer of this work have been raised with controversial discussions among scholars.
David’s arrangement was followed by the Leopold Charlier (1867-1936) version, a rearranged edition of David’s version. One the other hand, Diethard Hellmann (1928-1999) presented a scholar edition of Jacob Lindner’s manuscript, which offers an authentic reading of Lindner’s manuscript. In addition, this Chaconne is also transcribed for different instrumental combinations.
Furthermore, there are a various recordings of Vitali’s Chaconne, providing variety of thoughts and styles in interpretation. In addition, some performers even rearrange and/or combine parts of the existing editions to show their own view of this work. All these efforts brought about more possibilities of presentation and interpretation in this work.
This dissertation is divided into five chapters, the first chapter explains the research motivation and methods. The second chapter describes the background of the work and integrates all relevant literature comments about the composer's controversy. The third chapter introduces different editions of this work, and analyzes the music structure based on the most frequently performed edition arranged by the contemporary violinist Leopold Charlier. The fourth chapter discusses the different aspects of interpretation through the comparisons of the recordings of both David and Chalier’s editions. The fifth chapter summarizes the contributions of these different editions to Vitali's Chaconne and the important aspects about its interpretation.
