董榕森(奕宣)對於臺灣國樂的發展功不可沒，其所創作之作品數量眾多，種類豐富。其個人藝術生涯共創作了《六段錦》、《昇平樂》、《春江水暖》、《翠谷映輝》、《潺》、《彈戲》、《楓葉飄香萬里情》、《冬山河畔映彩霞》等八首箏樂作品。本文就董榕森畢生之箏樂創作，按樂曲演奏形式分章為獨奏作品、重奏作品、協奏作品，並依作品創作年代、創作背景、創作手法等面向加以討論。
其獨奏作品創作年代分布在六十年代至八十年代，初期的作品相當重視古箏的基本技法運用。重奏作品與協奏作品大多分布在多元交流的九十年代，此時的重奏作品以描述臺灣風情作為主要內容；協奏作品則擅用古箏的豐富音色與多樣技法，表現出聲腔的細膩婉轉、古箏演奏技法與音色的多變。
研究結果顯示，其古箏作品在技法運用上從基本的右彈左按，到雙手同時彈奏，皆反映了古箏技法的時序發展過程。樂曲形式自早期的練習曲和箏樂小品，篇幅逐漸擴充，由獨奏曲發展為重奏曲、協奏曲，各種形式的樂曲齊備。音色、音響及配器方面，董榕森善用不同演奏方法改變彈奏音色，透過聲部間不同音域的安排和樂句間的呼應，展現出豐厚的音響層次。創作素材選用的範圍相當大，無論是地方的箏樂語彙，抑或是民間戲曲素材等，都成為活用的創作元素。回顧董榕森的藝術生命，他在有生之年對臺灣國樂教育、創作、推廣不遺餘力，對古箏音樂的教育和發展也有不可磨滅的貢獻，其以豐沛的創作力為古箏譜寫篇篇樂章，流芳後世。

Rong-Sen Dong, a Taiwanese composer, has a significant contribution to the development of Traditional Chinese Music in Taiwan with abundant and diverse compositions during his lifetime. Dong has composed eight zheng works through his whole life, which are Six-sectioned Exercises, Music of Peace, Warm Spring Water, the Shiny Green Valley, the Gurgling Water, Playing the play, the Maple Love, Rosy Clouds of the Dong Shan River. The study aims to probe into all of Rong-sen Dong’s zheng works, being chaptered according to the form and content of works, and respectively discusses pieces from the aspects of the composing year, composing background and composing methods.
Dong’ s solo Zheng works were mainly composed during the 60s and 80s, belonging to the early zheng compositions of Taiwan Zheng music. The common trait of these works was the high emphasis on applications of the basic performing techniques of zheng music. The ensemble and concerto forms were mainly presented in the 90s of frequent cultural exchange. The former mainly dealt with the Mother Nature and scenery through the sweet and lively melodic lines. Otherwise, the later took good advantages of the abundant timbre and skills of zheng to present the elegance and subtlety of its tonal qualities, and also the diversity of zheng’s performing skills and timbre.
The research result revealed that composing skills of Dong show conscientious focus on the basic playing techniques in the early period, then the plucking by right hand with the pressing for changing pitches by the left hand, to finally melody-playing by the both hands. The structure also presented a developing trace from early small pieces like etudes, gradually to solo pieces, ensemble works, and then concerto works. In the aspect of timber, acoustic effects and orchestration, Dong was good at changing the timbre by different performing methods, presenting rich acoustic layers through the alternative arrangement among different parts of distinct registers and the responses of musical phrases. Moreover, concerning the composing materials, Dong’s range was extensive, and he turned materials whether from local zheng music or from folk operas into his composing vocabulary.
While reviewing Rong-Sen Dong’s artistic life, it is obvious that Dong dedicates his life to the education, composition and promotion of Chinese music in Taiwan, and has huge contributions to the cultivation and development of zheng music in Taiwan. With his great creativity, Dong wrote many chapters for zheng through his music, and left a good reputation.
