In recent years, interactivity has become prominent in several areas of society. Interactivity is already used in education, entertainment, marketing, and communication. Unlike the traditional method of consuming art by passive observation, interactivity provides further stimulation by placing the audience in the role of active participants. Since the human senses are necessary for interactivity to occur, understanding these functions should be a vital part of experimenting with this technology. Not to mention, the human senses are rarely featured as the subject in modern artwork, despite its significance in daily life. By creating an interactive installation of the human senses, using animation as the visual component, the artist and viewers can connect with the senses on a deeper level. To achieve this the artwork uses different interactive devices and microcontrollers as the method of interaction that, upon interaction, trigger the related 3D scene to change. In addition, implementing scientific research of the physiology of the human senses, as well as historical and modern artistic references, presents a framework to accurately represent these functions. Combing aspects of science, technology, and art, to create an interactive installation of the human senses provides a new perspective of not only the human senses, but how science and technology have fundamentally changed society – challenging the traditional notion of art as passive observation.
