本論文針對華爾頓的《大提琴與管弦樂協奏曲》做全面性的分析與探討。筆者希望藉由探究華爾頓的生平背景與創作手法，對於本身在此曲的演奏技巧與詮釋方面有更深一層的見解，此外也期望對於想了解華爾頓作品的大眾能提供幫助。
全文共分為五章，第一章為緒論，一共分成兩節，第一節研究背景與目的與第二節研究範圍與方法。第二章為華爾頓《大提琴與管弦樂協奏曲》之創作背景，第一節華爾頓生平概述，第二節華爾頓作品創作風格，第三節《大提琴與管弦樂協奏曲》之創作背景。第三章為作曲手法探討，包括曲式、動機發展、旋律、節奏、和聲等。第四章為演奏詮釋探討，筆者將根據此曲特色與寫作技巧，於弓法、指法、音量表現等各方面的演奏技巧做論述，以及如何與樂團一同詮釋出樂曲所蘊含豐沛細膩的情感。第五章為結語，筆者綜合上述章節，提出個人觀點與心得做一總結。

The purpose of the research is to make a comprehensive analysis of William Walton’s Concerto for Violoncello and Orchestra. By investigating Walton’s background and compositional methods, the author is able to gain further insights of techniques and interpretation of the performing art. Moreover, according to the research findings, this thesis can provide assistance to people interested in Walton’s works.
This thesis includes five chapters: Chapter one, the author describes the introduction, motives, purpose, methods and steps of the study; Chapter two will introduce William Walton’s life, background and the motive of his composition; Chapter three discusses the compositional characteristics of the concerto from some different aspects: form, thematic development, melody, rhythm, harmony. Chapter four will be focus on performance and interpretation. The final chapter will summarize and express the author’s point of view.
